Thiruvananthapuram: 5,456 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Kerala today even as 4,701 patients have recovered from the disease. 4,722 persons including 37 healthcare workers were infected through contact and the contact source of infection for 606 was unknown. Meanwhile, 23 deaths in the last few days were confirmed today as due to Covid taking the death toll in the state to 2,757.
54,472 samples were tested in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate is 10.02%. A total of 72,33,523 samples have been sent for testing till now.
The district-wise numbers of those who tested positive today for Coronavirus are Kozhikode 674, Thrissur 630, Ernakulam 578, Kottayam 538, Malappuram 485, Kollam 441, Pathanamthitta 404, Palakkad 365, Alappuzha 324, Thiruvananthapuram 309, Kannur 298, Wayanad 219, Idukki 113 and Kasaragod 78. Of those diagnosed today, 91 have arrived in the state from outside.
The count for the locally transmitted cases are Kozhikode 651, Thrissur 616, Ernakulam 436, Kottayam 503, Malappuram 462, Kollam 438, Pathanamthitta 319, Palakkad 180, Alappuzha 304, Thiruvananthapuram 176, Kannur 246, Wayanad 214, Idukki 104 and Kasargod 73.
The tally of the infected healthcare workers are Kannur 13; Ernakulam, Thrissur & Kozhikode 5 each, Thiruvananthapuram & Pathanamthitta 3 each, Palakkad 2 and Wayanad 1.
The district-wise figures for the patients who tested negative today are Thiruvananthapuram 273, Kollam 283, Pathanamthitta 190, Alappuzha 211, Kottayam 463, Idukki 134, Ernakulam 504, Thrissur 577, Palakkad 205, Malappuram 664, Kozhikode 581, Wayanad 192, Kannur 349 and Kasaragod 75.
6,32,065 people have so far recovered Covid in the State and at present, there are 58,884 patients still undergoing treatment for the same.
There are a total of 2,94,646 people under isolation in various districts of the state – 2,81,217 under home or institutional quarantine and 13,429 under hospital surveillance. 1,470 persons were admitted to the hospitals today.
Five places were demarcated as new hotspots today while none were excluded and currently, there are 453 hotspots in Kerala.
